Hotel Kanra Kyoto’s concept of this “edutainment hotel” is to experience the joy of unexpected discoveries and learning by touching upon the wisdom and thoughts of people behind the culture nurtured by Kyoto’s history, such as beauty, tradition, and hospitality. In terms of spatial design, the hotel takes advantage of the existing building’s structure, incorporating the concept of traditional Kyoto townhouses, or “Machiya style,” into the long, narrow guest rooms. The lobby and restaurant feature interactive art that changes with the seasons, time, sound, and movement of people, created through collaboration with creators. By combining these interactive elements with Japanese elements, a unique and innovative space is created.
